about " The Marketing Advantage of Fair Trade Gemstones "

GIA Thailand’s 6th Gemstone Gathering was presented by world renowned writer and photographer Mr. Robert Weldon who is the manager of photography and visual communications at GIA’s headquarters in Carlsbad, California.

Mr. Weldon is an astute observer of the colored stone market, he has worked as a writer, senior editor and director of photography for a number of well known trade publications including JCK and Professional Jeweler. Additionally Mr. Weldon has won numerous awards and accolades for his writing and photography work over the years.

  

Mr. Weldon’s presentation focused on the marketing of fair trade gemstones which is a current topical issue of growing importance that has begun to impact many everyday commodities and luxury goods. His presentation took attendees on a slideshow tour featuring exquisite photography to many of the worlds most important gem sources in Africa, Asia and South America.

Many areas of the fair trade issue were covered in his presentation, the key underlying message was that consumers and the trade are responsible for what they purchase and that ethics and corporate responsibility are still two extremely important vehicles our industry must promote in order to achieve consumer confidence and sustainable development of our industry for future generations.
