Guy
Clutterbuck began his career in the gem business in 1983 and specializes
in buying rough and cut gemstones in Africa and Asia. Clutterbuck studied
the art and science of gem cutting in Thailand and is a graduate of
the Gemmological Institute of America. His main markets are the US and
Europe where he has numerous prestigious clients including the Queen
of England’s Crown Jeweler.

Guy
Clutterbuck has acted as a guide to remote and dangerous areas of the
gem-related world for various media personalities. John Simpson, a renowned
BBC journalist, considered his trip with Guy to the mountains of Afghanistan
as one of his most memorable, and relates some amusing anecdotes of
the journey in his autobiography "Strange Places, Questionable
People".


Clutterbuck
began buying aquamarine 25 years ago in the African bush. He currently
buys substantial quantities of emerald and aquamarine at source in Zambia,
in addition to investing in small scale mining operations.

Guy
Clutterbuck’s presentation will focus on the nature of the gemstone
business from the sharp end with particular attention paid to his experiences
in Africa. Guy Clutterbuck will additionally be explaining how these
stones are faceted and marketed throughout the world and additionally
will discuss the current topical issues of fair trade and ethics which
is of growing importance to consumers of luxury goods.
